Description
This Redbreast was distilled at Midleton in 1989 and bottled for The Whisky Exchange in 2020 at 30 years old, single cask 38635, a run of 444 for an event. It is a single pot still, malted and unmalted barley triple distilled in East Cork, the benchmark style of Irish Distillers presented here at unusual age.
The whiskey first matured in bourbon barrels, then was re-casked into a Port cask in 1995, an all Port maturation stretching across a quarter century. Port lends red fruit and a soft sweetness over the pot still's oily spice, three decades of wood adding depth. Bottled at cask strength, 57.2%, it is powerful and undiluted, a single cask captured at thirty years.
