Description
This Redbreast 19 Years Old was bottled for The Whisky Exchange as a small batch release in 2023, a single pot still from Midleton in East Cork. Redbreast is the benchmark pot still range from Irish Distillers, distilled from malted and unmalted barley and triple distilled for its peppery, oily character. Nineteen years is well beyond the core range's usual ages.
Second fill Oloroso sherry casks mature the whiskey, the refill wood giving a measured sherry influence of dried fruit and walnut rather than an overwhelming one. Bottled at cask strength, 58.9%, it is powerful and aromatic, dark chocolate and sherried fruit over the pot still's oily spine. A drop of water eases the strength while the texture stays full.
