Description
Lúnasa, the festival that opens the Irish harvest, names this 2023 entry in Dingle's Wheel of the Year series, the Co. Kerry distillery's run of cask strength releases pegged to the old Celtic calendar. The malt is triple distilled on small pots and matured within reach of the Atlantic on the Dingle peninsula.
The cask story is a bourbon double act: primary maturation in bourbon casks, then a finish in barrels that previously held Widow Jane bourbon from New York. The layered American oak gives dark chocolate, vanilla and candied citrus over dried fruit and malt extract, and the undiluted 50.5% strength carries it with real weight. It is a harvest whiskey in temper as well as name, sweet, generous and warming.
