Description
Lá an Dreoilín, Wren's Day, falls on 26 December, when wren boys in straw masks still parade through the streets of Dingle town, and this 2024 release folds that Kerry tradition into the Wheel of the Year series. It is a single pot still whiskey from The Dingle Whiskey Distillery, triple distilled from malted and unmalted barley and bottled at cask strength.
After primary maturation in ex-bourbon casks the spirit takes a finish in Muscatel wine casks, which cook the fruit character into stewed apple and citrus peel with a nutty, fresh oak frame. Bottled undiluted at 52.5%, it sets that wine sweetness against the black pepper and ginger the unmalted barley gives the mash bill, with the creamy pot still texture holding it together.
