Description
This Redbreast 12 Years Old is a rare old bottling, labelled Rare Old Irish Whiskey and released at full cask strength for the Portuguese market. Redbreast built its name as the benchmark single pot still, bonded from John Jameson pot still spirit at Bow Street in Dublin, and a cask strength edition of this age from the era is an unusual survivor.
Bottled undiluted at 70%, it drives the single pot still character to its limit, green apple, clove and black pepper over the oily, waxy texture that comes from the unmalted barley in the mash. Twelve years in ex-bourbon oak lend vanilla and a barley sugar sweetness beneath the heat, a concentrated take on the style that rewards a drop of water.
