Yuza Third Edition 2023 is the third instalment in Yuza Distillery's numbered annual release programme, a NAS single malt from the Yamagata coast, founded in 2018 and operated by Kinryu. As a third edition it records the accumulation of experience at a young distillery still building its cask inventory and its voice.
Maturation across mizunara and Ex-Bourbon casks gives this release its dual character: the bourbon barrels provide clean orchard fruit and vanilla, while the mizunara contributes its distinctive sandalwood and gentle incense notes, a Japanese oak signature that deepens with time in cask. At 55% cask strength both woods are present without either dominating, and Yuza's coastal Yamagata environment adds a clean, salt-tinged freshness that ties the two cask types together.
