Description
Yuza 3 Years Old 2019 (SMWS 158.1) is a single cask expression drawn from Yuza Distillery in coastal Yamagata and bottled for European release by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, the first Yuza bottling to carry the Society's 158 distillery code. Distilled in 2019 and bottled in 2023, it was produced at the Kinryu-owned distillery founded in 2018, still in the earliest vintages of its production history.
The single cask spent its three years entirely in a first-fill Ex-Bourbon barrel, giving the spirit a concentrated dose of sweet vanilla, clean grain and fresh fruit without any competing wood influence. At 61.2% cask strength the result is direct and vivid, and Yuza's precise, fruit-forward new make character comes through clearly. The SMWS bottling makes this a rare opportunity to taste Yamagata's emerging coastal distillery in single-cask, independent form.
