Description
Yoichi Single Malt is the core NAS expression from Nikka's Yoichi distillery, set on the Sea of Japan coast of Hokkaido and owned by Asahi. This edition at 45% was released for the European market and represents the accessible entry point into the Yoichi range, carrying the distillery's full identity in a widely distributed format.
Matured typically in Ex-Bourbon casks, the whisky expresses the house character of Yoichi: peat smoke and brine from the coastal maritime climate and the near-extinct practice of coal-fired direct distillation, over a foundation of firm malt, baked fruit and vanilla from the oak. Where the age statement expressions offer more depth and complexity, the NAS at 45% is a clean and honest representation of what the Hokkaido coast produces.
