Description
Yoichi Single Malt Heavily Peated is a no age statement, cask strength release from Nikka's Yoichi distillery on the Sea of Japan coast of Hokkaido, owned by Asahi. Released in 2015 for the global market, it is one of the most smoke-forward expressions in the Yoichi lineup, leaning into the peated barley character that the distillery has used since Masataka Taketsuru chose the Hokkaido coast for its likeness to Scotland.
Matured in Ex-Bourbon casks, the spirit has no listed tasting notes on record, but the house character at this peat level typically runs to bonfire smoke, brine, coastal mineral notes and a firm malt backbone, with the Ex-Bourbon wood providing vanilla and dried fruit in the background. At 48% cask strength it is direct and uncompromising.
