Description
Yamazakura 9 Years Old is a single malt from Sasanokawa Shuzo's Asaka distillery in Fukushima prefecture, released at cask strength for the German market. Asaka opened in 2016 and the distillery has established a reputation for precise, characterful malts drawn from a varied wood programme. At 56%, this bottling offers the liquid at full natural concentration without dilution.
Matured in Oloroso sherry casks, the spirit takes on the dark, generous notes typical of Spanish oak: dried fig, rich raisin, dark chocolate and a warm baking-spice finish. Sherry maturation suits the Asaka house style well, adding depth and texture to what is already a robust cask strength release from one of Fukushima's most storied producers.
