Description
Yamazaki Single Cask 34 Years Old 1984 is a long aged single malt from Suntory's Yamazaki distillery in Osaka Prefecture, Japan's first malt distillery, founded in 1923 in the valley of Shimamoto where three rivers meet between Osaka and Kyoto. Distilled in 1984 and bottled in 2018 for the Netherlands market, it draws from one cask at cask strength, 57%, one of the older single cask releases from the distillery.
Matured in a single Ex-Bourbon puncheon, the large format American oak cask gives deep vanilla, honey and a resinous, waxy old wood character built over three and a half decades. At cask strength the spirit shows concentrated orchard fruit beneath the oak, the long maturation lending real weight, depth and complexity. It is a singular look at very old Yamazaki from one barrel, full and resinous in the glass, the kind of mature single cask that rewards a careful drop of water and patient attention.
