Description
Yamazaki Mizunara is a no age statement single malt from Suntory's distillery in Shimamoto, Osaka Prefecture, in the river valley where humid air aids the slow marriage of spirit and wood. This 2013 bottling is dedicated entirely to mizunara, the Japanese oak at the heart of the distillery's identity and a true signature of Japanese whisky.
Full maturation in mizunara oak gives the wood's characteristic sandalwood, incense and temple wood notes over the distillery's ripe orchard fruit, with a warm vanilla spice filling the middle. The porous, slow giving oak lends an aromatic depth that grows with time in cask, the fragrance carrying long into the finish. Bottled at cask strength 48%, it is concentrated and perfumed, a clear expression of the house signature wood and the depth that mizunara alone can give.
