Description
A single cask Yamazaki distilled in 1992 and bottled in 2009 at sixteen years old by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society as code 119.12, released for Germany. The spirit comes from Suntory's Osaka Prefecture distillery, Japan's first malt whisky site, founded in 1923 in the valley of Shimamoto, and the cask is the prized Japanese mizunara oak.
Full maturation in a single mizunara cask, the porous Japanese oak that gives slowly and rewards long ageing with its signature. Bottled at cask strength, an uncut 54% from one barrel. Expect sandalwood and incense over dried fruit, vanilla and a deep oak spice, the temple wood character that mizunara lends most clearly with time. The high strength carries weight and a long, aromatic finish, opening further with a little water. A rare independent look at Yamazaki on its most distinctive wood.
