Description
Yamazaki is Suntory's Osaka Prefecture distillery, the oldest malt site in Japan, founded in 1923 in the humid valley where the Katsura, Uji and Kizu rivers meet. This 2010 vintage was bottled in 2021 at 11 Years Old for the Japanese market in a 500ml format, an undiluted look at the lighter side of the house.
Maturation took place in American oak, the wood that lets Yamazaki's orchard fruit lead. At 54% it is bright and clean, with vanilla and sweet coconut, crisp green apple and a soft malty backbone, finishing on gentle oak. Approachable for a cask strength malt, it shows the fruit forward American oak character the distillery is known for in its younger single cask era bottlings.
