Description
Bottled in 2013, this is the first release of Writers' Tears Cask Strength, the annual undiluted edition from Walsh Whiskey in Co. Carlow. Like the wider range it is a marriage of single pot still and single malt whiskey with no grain, carries no age statement, and this inaugural outturn was released to the German market in a run of 2,500 bottles.
Maturation in ex-bourbon American oak barrels lends vanilla, honey and a soft sweetness. Bottled at 53% and undiluted, the whiskey is full and warming, the single pot still portion bringing a peppery, gingery grip and an oily texture that balances the malt. A splash of water opens the orchard fruit and rounds the oak.
