Description
This is a single cask edition of Writers' Tears Copper Pot from Walsh Whiskey in Co. Carlow, cask number 1435, bottled in 2020. Copper Pot is the house marriage of single pot still and single malt whiskey with no grain, and this expression was finished in Japanese Mizunara oak, a scarce and slow working wood. The outturn was 630 bottles, all at cask strength.
After first maturation in ex-bourbon American oak, time in Mizunara adds its signature sandalwood, incense and a green, herbal edge to the honeyed malt and orchard fruit. At 55% and undiluted the whiskey is full and aromatic, the pot still spice threading through the exotic oak. A drop of water coaxes the Mizunara perfume forward.
