Description
This single cask Writers' Tears, cask number 1129, was bottled by Walsh Whiskey in Co. Carlow in 2023 and finished in a cask that once held Inniskillin ice wine, the sweet Canadian wine made from frozen grapes. It follows the Writers' Tears style, a marriage of single pot still and single malt whiskey with no grain, and 600 bottles were released for the Belgian market.
Ex-bourbon casks provide the vanilla and honey groundwork, with the ice wine finish drawing out cooked and fresh orchard fruit and a floral sweetness. Bottled at 46%, the whiskey is soft and rounded, the pot still portion adding a light pepper that keeps the sweetness honest. An easygoing, fruit forward single cask.
