The 2024 Writers' Tears Cask Strength is the latest in Walsh Whiskey's annual undiluted series, made in Co. Carlow from the house marriage of single pot still and single malt whiskey. It carries no age statement and was limited to 1,800 bottles.
American oak maturation gives the vanilla and soft toffee backbone, while the pot still portion supplies a peppery, gingery edge. At 54.5% and unreduced the whiskey is concentrated and lively, citrus peel and honey up front, baking spice and a warm oakiness underneath. A little water lengthens the finish and lifts the fruit.
