Description
Writers' Tears Cask Strength is the undiluted annual release from Walsh Whiskey in Co. Carlow, brought together each year from a marriage of single pot still and single malt whiskey with no grain in the mix. This 2017 edition was limited to 5,280 bottles and carries no age statement, letting the natural strength and cask character speak instead of years.
Maturation was in flame charred American oak barrels, the char coaxing vanilla, toffee and a darker chocolate note from the wood. At 53% and without dilution the spirit is full and warming, with cooked and dried fruit, honeyed malt and the peppery lift of the pot still portion. A splash of water opens the orchard fruit and softens the oak.
