Description
This 2016 release belongs to Walsh Whiskey's annual Cask Strength series, made in Co. Carlow to the Writers' Tears recipe of single pot still married with single malt and no grain whiskey. It carries no age statement and was limited to 2,640 bottles.
The barrels here were flame charred American oak, the heavy char pushing chocolate, vanilla and dried fruit to the fore. At 53% and unreduced the whiskey is dense and warming, fresh orchard fruit lifting the darker notes while the pot still portion adds spice and a creamy texture. Water opens it without thinning the body.
