The virgin oak entry in West Cork Distillers' Cask Collection, bottled in 2019 at the distillery in Skibbereen, Co. Cork. It follows the range's ex-bourbon maturation with a finish in fresh, uncharred oak casks from Kelvin Cooperage.
Where the base bourbon wood gives soft vanilla and citrus, the virgin oak finish adds a firmer note of fresh timber, extra vanilla and a touch of chocolate, with a green, leafy edge from the young cask. Bottled at 43% without an age statement, it stays balanced rather than over oaked, the distillery's clean malt still clear beneath the wood. A European market release.
