A mash of malted and unmalted barley gives W.D. O’Connell’s Tomásín its peppery pot still prickle, deepened by seven years in a single Pedro Ximenez cask, number 203691, to fig, raisin and dark treacle at a natural 47.6%.

Description
Tomásín is the single pot still line from W.D. O'Connell Whiskey Merchants, made at The Great Northern Distillery in Dundalk, Co. Louth from the mash of malted and unmalted barley that defines Ireland's own whiskey style. This 7 Years Old edition is a single cask, number 203691, bottled in 2022 for the European market at its natural strength.
Full maturation in a Pedro Ximenez sherry cask is a rich route for pot still whiskey, and here the sweet dark sherry piles fig, raisin, walnut and dark treacle onto the style's signature peppery, gingery prickle and oily, waxy texture. Bottled at a cask strength of 47.6%, it balances that PX weight with pot still spice through a long, clove warmed finish, a young whiskey wearing a decidedly old fashioned coat.
