Description
This bottling of Tomásín, the single pot still line from W.D. O'Connell Whiskey Merchants, comes from a single ex-bourbon cask, number 203690, bottled in 2022 for the European market. The whiskey was distilled at The Great Northern Distillery in Dundalk, Co. Louth from a mash of malted and unmalted barley, the recipe that gives Irish pot still whiskey its character, and it carries no age statement.
With only American oak in play, the spirit itself takes centre stage: green apple, pear and barley sugar ride the hallmark pot still spice of clove, ginger and black pepper, while the ex-bourbon cask adds vanilla, coconut and a soft toasted sweetness. Bottled undiluted at 50.9%, it has the oily, creamy texture the style is prized for, and makes a clean counterpoint to its PX matured sister cask.
