Vusa is a South African vodka made not from grain but from African sugar cane grown in KwaZulu-Natal. Triple distilled in copper pot stills and filtered only once, it keeps a naturally smooth, faintly sweet character. Spring water from the Lion’s River cuts it to 40%, making for an unusual cane-based spirit with a creamy texture.

Description
Vusa is distilled in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, from local sugar cane rather than the wheat, potato or corn that most vodka leans on. Cane is the defining choice: it ferments and distils into a spirit with a natural softness and a gentle sweetness, closer in feel to a clean rhum agricole base than to a grain vodka. The spirit is triple distilled in small batches in copper pot stills, and crucially filtered only once, a light touch meant to keep some of that natural cane character rather than strip the spirit back to nothing. It is then reduced with spring water from the Lion's River to 40%.
The nose is clean and fresh with light cane, vanilla and a hint of citrus. The palate is soft and harmonious with a fine sweetness, a creamy texture and subtle fruity nuances, closing long and silky with a touch of natural sweetness. Since the cane base brings its own gentle sweetness, lean into it with a Caipiroska: muddle fresh lime wedges with a little sugar, add the vodka and crushed ice, and churn. The cane spirit echoes the structure of a cachaca caipirinha, and its creaminess softens the lime's sharp edge.
