A high-ester Hampden HGML magnum from Velier, this 7 Year Old runs bright with tropical fruit, pineapple esters and varnish over spicy young wood, distilled on the double-retort pot still and bottled unsweetened-leaning at a full 60%.
Description
This 7 Year Old Hampden, bottled by Velier from a magnum, carries the HGML marque, a fuller, fruit-and-ester-forward Hampden recipe. The Trelawny estate distils entirely on double-retort pot stills and is the reference for high-ester Jamaican funk, here working from molasses distilled in 2018 and matured in ex-bourbon casks at origin before bottling at cask strength.
The nose is loaded with pineapple, tropical fruit, solvents and a pastry-like sweetness, the palate keeps the pineapple esters bright over woody spice, and the finish is long, estery and varnish-streaked, classic Hampden territory. Tropically aged and bottled at 60%, this is a bolder, more demanding pour than the lighter marks, with a silkier mouthfeel than the strength suggests, made for drinkers ready for serious Jamaican intensity.
