A Pure Single Jamaican rum from Hampden bottled by Velier, this HLCF marque pot still spirit pours pineapple, ripe banana, nail polish and light smoke, intense yet softened to an approachable 46%.
Description
This is a Hampden Pure Single Jamaican Rum selected by Velier, the Genoese house that did much to bring the Trelawny distillery's funk to the wider world. Hampden is the reference point for high-ester Jamaican rum, working with wild fermentation, dunder, muck pits and double-retort pot stills and adding nothing to the spirit. The 1753 marks Hampden's founding year, and this carries the HLCF marque, a mid-range ester level by the distillery's standards rather than its explosive top end.
Bottled at an approachable 46%, it brings real Hampden character without full cask-strength aggression. The nose is all pineapple, ripe and overripe banana and the signature nail-polish ester lift, while the palate keeps the tropical fruit and esters over light smoke and young oak, with banana, roasted notes and pineapple on the finish. The HLCF level gives genuine funk while staying drinkable, oily and soft for the style. A fine everyday Hampden for drinkers who are funk-curious or already love the house, equally good neat or in a cocktail.
