Description
From Velier's Hearts Collection, this 2025 edition is a 26 year old Appleton distilled in 1999. Velier is the most prestigious name in collectible rum, and this release showcases an older, funkier pot still side of Appleton, Jamaica's largest distillery, at full cask strength.
Tropically aged in ex-bourbon and bottled at 63 percent, it is dark, woody and spicy, with burnt sugar, candied and dried fruit threaded through mild tropical esters. The palate is concentrated and oak driven, finishing roasted, sweet and woody. The high strength means it genuinely needs long breathing time to open, after which the depth and balance reveal themselves. Certified unsweetened, it is a deep, mature Appleton for drinkers who like the estate's funkier, oak led releases turned up in wood, spice and strength.
