A Mauritian molasses rum from Grays, finished by Vagabond Spirits over coffee beans, dark and aromatic with espresso, bitter orange, cinnamon and vanilla, sweet on the palate yet dry on the finish at 46%.
Description
Vagabond Spirits built this release on molasses rum distilled by Grays in Mauritius, then matured it in a cask seasoned with coffee beans and an orange-liqueur character, a deliberately flavour-driven approach rather than a straight aged rum. It is molasses-based, distinct from the island's cane-juice agricole, and the coffee treatment is central to the bottling.
The result is dark and aromatic, with espresso, orange, cinnamon and vanilla on the nose, then coffee, orange and a sweet edge on the palate. The finish brings bitter orange and more coffee, lightly smoky and spiced. Though listed without added sugar, the cask work makes it taste sweet and dessert-leaning, so it is best approached as an after-dinner pour where the coffee and orange do the talking, not as a dry sipper. At 46% it carries that aromatic weight comfortably.
