Description
This special cask finish comes off the Uitvlugt Savalle column, a refined, fruity Demerara marque from a closed Guyanese estate, and was bottled by Demerara Distillers under the El Dorado name. A 2006 vintage aged fifteen years and finished in Sauternes casks from 2021, it is unusually presented here unsweetened and at cask strength, 58.1%.
Uitvlugt sits toward the cleaner, fruitier end of the Demerara spectrum, so expect refined fruit, soft spice and molasses toffee rather than heavy tar and liquorice. A Sauternes finish, drawing on a sweet French dessert wine, would be expected to layer honeyed apricot and dried fruit over that base. A dry, full-proof Uitvlugt finished for richness, distinct from the softer mainstream El Dorado blends.
