The Tyrconnell is the flagship unpeated single malt of the Cooley distillery in Co. Louth, founded in 1987 by John Teeling to challenge the near monopoly then held over Irish whiskey. The brand itself is far older, a 19th century label named for a winning racehorse, revived by Cooley as the flag carrier for its double distilled malt.

Where most Irish whiskey is triple distilled, Tyrconnell takes two passes through the copper in the Scottish manner, keeping a little more body and fruit in the spirit. Ex-bourbon casks supply vanilla, chocolate and honey around a core of fresh orchard fruit and citrus, with malty depth in the finish. This no age statement bottling at 43% is the range's everyday cornerstone.
