Description
Madeira casks are one of the signature finishes in the Tyrconnell range, Cooley's unpeated single malt from Co. Louth. This 10 Years Old spends its first years in American oak before moving into casks that previously held the fortified wine of the Atlantic island, a pairing the brand has made very much its own.
The Madeira wood brings honeyed raisin, gentle spice and a burnished sweetness to a malt already rich in fresh fruit, citrus and vanilla, with malt extract depth beneath. Double distilled rather than triple, the spirit has enough weight to carry the wine cask without being swamped. Bottled at 46%, it is arguably the definitive expression of Tyrconnell's long affection for fortified wine casks.
