The Tyrconnell is Cooley's unpeated single malt, double distilled at the Co. Louth distillery and named for a celebrated 19th century racehorse whose label Cooley revived. Wine and fortified cask finishes are a signature of the range, and this 10 Years Old takes the classic route, a full decade in American oak before a finishing period in Oloroso sherry casks.

The sherry wood works deep into the malt, layering dried fruit, walnut and old polished oak over the orchard fruit and citrus of the base spirit, with a dry, hay like edge keeping it from turning heavy. Bottled at 46%, it shows how well Cooley's lighter double distilled malt takes to Spanish oak, thoroughly sherried without losing its Irish freshness.
