The First Cut was an early Two Stacks release, a blend assembled by the Newry, Co. Down bonder from Great Northern whiskey matured in virgin oak, ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks, bottled at Killowen Distillery in 2020 for an event.
It drinks bright and springlike, fresh citrus, cut hay and crisp orchard fruit over gentle toffee, the virgin oak lending just enough spice to hold it together. Bottled at an easy 43%, it is the approachable face of the same stock the Blender's Cut bottles at full strength, an aperitif style Irish blend with a fragrant lift and a clean, cereal sweet finish.
