Description
Part of the Smoke & Mirrors line from Two Stacks, this is peated single malt from The Great Northern Distillery in Dundalk, Co. Louth, one of the few modern Irish distilleries making smoky spirit at all. The 2023 European release pairs that peat with a cask you will rarely meet twice: imperial oatmeal stout.
Ex-Bourbon barrels handle the base maturation, laying down vanilla and orchard fruit, before the stout casks add dark chocolate, roasted grain and coffee bitterness that knit naturally into the coal edged smoke. Bottled at 48% straight from the marriage, it drinks like a smoked porter turned whiskey, rich, dark and faintly sweet, with the vanilla resurfacing once the smoke settles.
