Description
This Smoke & Mirrors edition sends the Two Stacks peated single malt through one of the odder casks in the Irish landscape: barrels that held a maple syrup stout from Dublin brewery Dot Brew. The whiskey underneath is peated malt from The Great Northern Distillery in Dundalk, Co. Louth, and the 2023 release ran to 282 bottles for Belgium.
Ex-Bourbon maturation gives the vanilla and honey backbone, and the stout wood layers on maple sweetness, dried fruit and a roasted grain darkness that folds into the soft heather smoke rather than fighting it. Bottled at a cask strength 56.4%, it is autumnal and generous, pancake sweetness up front, embers at the finish, and it needs no water to stay balanced.
