Description
Smoke & Mirrors is the peated side of the Two Stacks range, built on smoky single malt from The Great Northern Distillery in Dundalk, Co. Louth, a rarity in a country that overwhelmingly leaves the peat alone. This 2022 edition ran to 270 bottles for the German market and takes the line somewhere stranger still.
After Ex-Bourbon maturation, the malt was finished in casks from Dublin brewery Dot Brew that had held a honey bourbon barley wine, beer soaked wood that pushes honey, toasted malt and a sticky sweetness into the peat smoke. Bottled at a cask strength 55.7%, it plays campfire against honeypot, and the smoke, in the soft heathery Irish register rather than coastal iodine, wins on the finish.
