Description
The Double Barrel Single Grain is one of the core expressions from Two Stacks, made with grain whiskey column distilled at The Great Northern Distillery in Dundalk, Co. Louth. Grain is the quiet workhorse of Irish whiskey, and the bonder's trick here, named in the title, is to run it through two casks rather than leave it to fade politely in one. This bottling was released for Europe.
The spirit starts in Ex-Bourbon barrels, which give the classic grain profile of soft toffee, coconut and banana, before a second residence in an Oloroso sherry butt adds raisin, walnut and a nutty dryness. Bottled at 43%, it stays light on its feet, an approachable pour that shows how much character young grain can carry when the casks do their work.
