Description
Two Stacks, the bonding house from Newry, drew this single malt from The Great Northern Distillery in Dundalk, Co. Louth, Ireland's largest independent producer. Distilled in 2019 and bottled in 2023 at 5 Years Old, it is a limited run of 300 bottles for the Netherlands, typical of the bonder's habit of catching young whiskey at full flavour and releasing it at full strength.
First matured in Ex-Bourbon barrels, the malt was then finished in blackstrap rum casks, a dark molasses seasoned wood that folds treacle and brown sugar into the whiskey's honey, fresh fruit and vanilla. Bottled at a cask strength 56.5%, it keeps its malt extract depth and fragrant citrus lift intact, and a drop of water opens the sweeter rum notes further.
