Description
A 2016 vintage single malt from The Great Northern Distillery in Dundalk, Co. Louth, selected and matured by the Newry bonder Two Stacks and bottled in 2023 at 6 Years Old. Batch TS0127 yielded 350 bottles, kept for the Irish market, a home release from a bonder better known abroad for its cask strength one offs.
The malt began in Ex-Bourbon barrels, building vanilla, honey and orchard fruit, before a finishing spell in a Pedro Ximenez sherry butt, the sweetest of sherry casks, which pours in fig, raisin and dark chocolate. Bottled at 56% without dilution, it drinks rich and dessert like for its age, the youthful Great Northern spirit clean enough to carry the heavy sherry seasoning without losing its malty core.
