Description
Chorlton Whisky bottled this Tullibardine single malt, a 29 year old from 1993 and bottled at 47.5%. 181 bottles in all. Set in Perthshire, off the A9, Tullibardine has distilled since 1949. It was founded by the distillery architect William Delme-Evans, the first new distillery in Scotland after the war.
The spirit was made in copper stills for a soft, fruity make, for a fruity, mellow make. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, gentle American oak beneath the fruit. Long ageing brings a deeper dried fruit character and a soft oak spice. The cool Highland climate gives a slow, even maturation over the years. Tullibardine was founded in 1949 by the architect William Delme-Evans, the first new distillery in post war Scotland. King James IV is said to have bought ale at a Blackford brewery in 1488, on the site the distillery now occupies. Its water rises in the Ochil Hills, the same source that feeds the Highland Spring brand.
Bottled at a cask strength 47.5%, it is rich. Vanilla and a light toffee from the barrel runs under a mellow, honeyed character. A dried fruit and a soft oak give it depth. A warming, honeyed finish lingers. This is a gentle, honeyed Highland single malt.
