Description
An independent Tullibardine, selected and bottled by Chorlton Whisky matured to 13 year old and bottled at 52.2%. Only 213 bottles were released. Tullibardine, founded in 1949 by William Delme-Evans in Blackford, on the edge of the Highlands, is known for its wine cask finishes. Delme-Evans went on to design the Jura and GlenAllachie distilleries.
It was drawn off copper pot stills fed by the Danny Burn, for a soft, vanilla scented spirit. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending honey and vanilla. Mid age brings a deeper honey and a riper, maltier fruit. Bourbon wood frames the make with vanilla, the wine casks adding fruit. Delme-Evans, a noted gravity flow designer, also drew up the Jura and GlenAllachie distilleries. The malt also feeds the Highland Queen blend, another brand in the Picard stable. Part of the old estate was turned into a retail outlet during the lean years.
At a full 52.2% it is bold yet honeyed. A gentle vanilla from the wood, with pear, honey and a malty note. The texture is soft and round, the fruit lifted by honey. The finish is rounded, honeyed and gentle. This is Tullibardine's fruity Highland style.
