Tullamore Dew

Tullamore D.E.W. takes its initials from Daniel E. Williams, the man who built the original Offaly distillery into a nineteenth century giant. The modern distillery reopened in 2014 and is unusual in triple distilling pot still, malt and grain whiskey side by side on one site. This original blend draws all three together, the pot still for backbone, the malt for fruit and the grain for a soft, approachable finish.

Maturation is in ex-bourbon casks, which lend the vanilla and light toffee that sit at the centre of the Tullamore style. Bottled at 40%, it leans gentle and easygoing, with green apple and orchard fruit, a little citrus and a clean, uncomplicated close. It is the blend that carries the name into most markets, built for mixing and easy sipping rather than contemplation.
