Tres Hombres Poisson Captain‘s Choice Ed. 57 2017

This Captain's Choice comes from the Poisson distillery on Marie-Galante, maker of the well-known Pere Labat agricole, bottled by Tres Hombres after a voyage as sail-powered cargo. Distilled from fresh sugar cane juice and aged five years in ex-bourbon oak, it is bottled at full cask strength, 60%.

The rum keeps a vivid agricole freshness despite the oak, the nose fresh and fruity with spice and mirabelle plum, the palate spicy and fruity with an astringent, roasted edge that speaks to its strength, the finish grassy and herbal with sugarcane and a chamomile note. Unsweetened and forceful, it balances ripe orchard fruit against the green, herbal heart of Marie-Galante cane. A characterful cask-strength agricole for those who like their rum bold and lively, rewarding slow neat sipping or a drop of water to soften the bite.
