A rum from the sail-traded Tres Hombres line, aged on Gran Canaria and bottled at 44.2%, showing dried fruit, caramel, vanilla and allspice over a woody, oak-driven palate, a dry, spice-forward sipper with a romantic transatlantic backstory.
Description
Tres Hombres bottles rum carried across the Atlantic under sail, and this La Palma Fuerte release in their numbered X Edition series hails from Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands, bottled at a sturdy 44.2%. The sail-freight story gives it genuine romance, while the rum itself sits on the drier, more wood-driven side of the spectrum.
The nose leads with dried fruit, caramel, vanilla and allspice, and the palate stays oak-forward with wood, dried fruit, allspice and vanilla before a finish of oak, dried fruit and caramel. It is a spice-led, gently sweet sipper rather than a lush or tropical one, with the barrel clearly in charge. For drinkers drawn as much to a bottle's journey as its contents, it is an evocative pour, and its dry, spicy character suits slow neat sipping where the oak and allspice can stretch out.
