Description
The Stillman's DE selected this Tormore, a 9 year old Speyside malt from 2011, drawn from cask 800102 and bottled at 59.4%. Just 135 bottles were filled. Tormore was first built between 1958 and 1960 beneath the Cromdale Hills in Speyside; its light malt long fed the Long John blend. Long a filler for the Long John and Ballantine's blends, Tormore was rarely seen as a single malt.
The spirit was run through purifier stills for a light, clean spirit, to build a clean, citrussy, almond edged character. A refill American oak cask held it, keeping the clean character to the fore. Younger here, it keeps a clean, nutty freshness over orchard fruit. The purifiers raise reflux, giving the clean, nutty spirit Tormore is known for. Elixir Distillers bought Tormore in 2022 and are reviving it as a single malt brand. Most of the spirit matures off site, much of it in refill ex-Bourbon wood.
At a hearty 59.4% it carries real weight. A light, nutty fruitiness meet soft vanilla and honey from the cask. The texture is light and slightly oily, the nut threaded through. A gently drying, nutty finish lingers. This is a light, nutty Speyside single malt.
