Description
This is a Tormore single malt, chosen and bottled by Chorlton Whisky, a 28 year old release from 1992 and bottled at 42.4%. Only 253 bottles were released. Set on the A95 in the heart of Speyside, Tormore has distilled since 1960. Water comes from the Achvochkie Burn, flowing off the granite hills above.
Distilled in swan neck stills fitted with purifiers, on soft Achvochkie Burn water, giving the structured, nutty Speyside spirit. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, with vanilla under the orchard fruit. Long ageing brings a deeper nutty, dried fruit character and a mellow oak. Sherry wood suits the light make, lending dried fruit and a nutty depth. The new owners released a Blueprint Series of 10 year olds in 2025 ahead of a full range. Its rise in 1958 broke a long pause in distillery building that had lasted decades. The architect Sir Albert Richardson gave it a grand, ornamental design unlike any other distillery.
At 42.4% it is clean and citrussy. The refill oak lending honey and vanilla runs under a clean, nutty character. A dried fruit and a dry oak spice give it depth. A gently drying, nutty finish lingers. This is a structured, nutty Speysider.
