Description
Duncan Taylor bottled this Tormore single malt, a 12 year old Speyside malt from 2010, drawn from cask 8237034 and bottled at 54.7%. The outturn was 65 bottles. Tormore, built in 1958 by Long John Distillers near Grantown-on-Spey in Speyside, is one of Scotland's most striking distilleries. It was designed by Sir Albert Richardson, a President of the Royal Academy, in a grand ornamental style.
It was worked through swan neck stills with purifiers, for the light, clean, nutty make Tormore is known for. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending honey and vanilla. Still young, the malt is light and nutty with a citrus lift. Soft water off the granite hills gives a clean, ester driven make. The distillery sits near Grantown-on-Spey, in sight of the Cromdale Hills. Tormore is cleaner than the waxy Clynelish, with more weight than the lightest Speysiders. The new owners released a Blueprint Series of 10 year olds in 2025 ahead of a full range.
At a full 54.7% it is intense yet nutty. Melon, nut and a grassy note sit alongside a quiet vanilla from the refill oak. It is clean and structured, the nutty spirit shining through. A nutty, gently spiced finish lingers. This is Tormore's clean, nutty Speyside style.
