Description
From Campbeltown Whisky Company Ltd comes this Tormore, a 10 year old release from 2010 and bottled at 57.1%. A release of 287 bottles. Set beneath the Cromdale Hills in Speyside, Tormore has distilled since 1960. It was the first new malt distillery built in Scotland in the 20th century, raised for the booming Long John blend.
The spirit was run through purifier stills for a light, clean spirit, to build a clean, citrussy, almond edged character. A refill American oak cask held it, keeping the clean character to the fore. Still young, the malt is light and nutty with a citrus lift. Soft water off the granite hills gives a clean, ester driven make. Tormore is cleaner than the waxy Clynelish, with more weight than the lightest Speysiders. The new owners released a Blueprint Series of 10 year olds in 2025 ahead of a full range. Its rise in 1958 broke a long pause in distillery building that had lasted decades.
At a natural 57.1% it is full and nutty. A nutty, orchard fruit sweetness sit alongside soft vanilla and honey from the cask. A green apple and a citrus note lift it. The close is clean, nut over orchard fruit. This is the architectural jewel of Speyside in a glass.
