Description
Single malt Tormore, an independent Douglas Laing bottling, aged 10 year old from 2010, drawn from cask DL 15312 and bottled at 46%. Just 331 bottles were filled. First built between 1958 and 1960 on the A95 in the heart of Speyside, Tormore is a grand Speyside distillery. The distillery is sometimes called the white cathedral of Speyside for its grand design.
Distilled in swan neck stills fitted with purifiers, on soft Achvochkie Burn water, giving the structured, nutty Speyside spirit. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, the wood adding a light honeyed sweetness. Younger here, it keeps a clean, nutty freshness over orchard fruit. The cool Speyside climate gives a slow, even maturation over the years. For most of its life its spirit vanished quietly into blends rather than into bottles of its own. Elixir Distillers bought Tormore in 2022 and are reviving it as a single malt brand.
Bottled at 46%, it is rounded. The refill oak lending honey and vanilla runs under green apple, nut and a soft spice. It is fine and nutty, the fruit and oak well matched. The finish runs light, citrussy and fresh. This is a light, almond edged Speyside single malt.
