Tobermory 30 Years Old 1994 Cask #688047 (Wilson & Morgan)

Bottled by Wilson & Morgan, this Tobermory matured to 30 year old from 1994, drawn from cask 688047 and bottled at 57.7%. The outturn was 507 bottles. Tobermory, the unpeated malt of the Isle of Mull, comes from one of Scotland's oldest distilleries. Its history is famously broken, with long silences; the buildings once held holiday lets and stored cheese.

Run through the distillery's boil ball stills, to build a nutty, waxy, fruity character. Maturation in sherry laid dried fruit over the fruit. At over thirty years it is rich and waxy, tropical fruit, honey and old oak. The waxy, oily spirit takes on cask character slowly and holds its texture well. A rare, more heavily peated make has appeared under the name Iona, after a neighbouring isle. In dry summers the distillery has paused when its hill loch ran low. The distillery sits at the head of the bay, beneath a steep wooded hill.

Bottled at a cask strength 57.7%, it is intense. A waxy, oily fruitiness, and sherried dried fruit and a nutty edge come through. The texture is oily and waxy, the fruit threaded through. A long, oily finish ends on orchard fruit. This is the waxy, fruity malt of Mull.
